Pasi Lyytikäinen

Pasi Lyytikäinen (born 2 October 1975 at Lapinlahti, Finland) studied composition with Erkki Jokinen and Paavo Heininen at the Sibelius Academy and in masterclasses with Esa-Pekka Salonen, Magnus Lindberg, Michael Jarrell, Marco Stroppa and others. His breakthrough came with the opera To Helsinki premiered in 2005 and based on the short novel of the same name by Juhani Aho. Other major works by him include his Degree Ceremony Cantata and the orchestral cycle Seven Songs for soprano and orchestra to poems by Saila Susiluoto. In 2000-01 he was composer-in-residence of Lapinlahti Municipality and taught composition part-time in the Kuopio Department of the Sibelius Academy. He has also been elected to serve on many committees in the field of music.

Works by Lyytikäinen have been performed in Chicago, Tokyo, London and Berlin, for example. His Par was one of the prize-winners in the Tong Piano Duet Competition held in London in 2002. On 16 June 2007 the Zagros ensemble and the Kallio-Kuninkala Music Festival are to hold a profile concert of his music at Järvenpää in Finland.
