Herman Rechberger (1947-2022) was born in Linz, Austria. He moved to Finland in 1970 and soon made a name for himself as a composer and performing artist. Rechberger radiated positive energy, warm humour and enthusiasm. Being near him was an uplifting experience. He was an explorer and a Renaissance figure who was familiar with music of different historical eras and geographical regions. This extensive knowledge was reflected in his works ranging from solo pieces to large-scale works such as the Heartbeat Concerto (Colpe de Corazón) and the opera …Nunc et semper…. His oeuvre includes also choral pieces, chamber music and orchestral works including three symphonies, which still await for their world premiere. Rechberger also wrote books on African, Arabian and Balkan music.
